San Francisco 49ers: Team Bio

Feb 01, 2013

The 1980s were years full of neon spandex, Wierd Al Yankovic, huge hair, and the San Francisco 49ers. Joe Montana was named the greatest football player to ever play the game as he led the 49ers to 4 Super Bowl Championships in the 80s. So where have they been in the last 20 years... someone hit the snooze button because they are back up and running again. The 49ers are the favorites to win Super Bowl XLVII.

The 49ers were named after the California gold rush of 1849. Coincidentally, the Balitmore Ravens were named after Edgar Allen Poe, a famous poet who died in Baltimore in the year... 1849. What could it all mean?

So the San Francisco 49ers have the Super Bowl 5 times. Their last Super Bowl was in 1994 and they've been almost non-existent until a couple of years ago.The 9ers probably could have won their 6th Super Bowl last year, but because of two huge fumbles by the same punt returner, who will remain nameless, the New York Giants knocked them out in the NFC Championship game with a couple of flukey plays.

This year is the rise of Colin Kaepernick. Last year when the 1st string Alex Smith got injured, Colin took over the ball and isn't looking back. He is one of the biggest, strongest and most dominating quarterback to play the game. He's huge and sometimes he hurts the defensive players when they try to tackle him.

Fun Facts

The 49ers play their games at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California. They wear some pretty cool golden uniforms and their mascot's name is Sourdough Sam, a half-cowboy goldrusher who shoots pistols when the 49ers score. They nicknamed Sam with "Sourdough", because Sam loves his sourdough bread... in fact, everyone in San Fran loves Sourdough for some odd reason.
