The 2013 Masters Preview

Apr 08, 2013

The 2013 Masters Golf tournament starts Thursday, April 11th in Augusta, Georgia. You might be asking yourself... well, what is so special about the Masters and why is it the biggest and most prosperous golf tournament in the World? Find out in Kidzworld's 2013 Masters Preview.

The big reason why there is so much hype about winning the Masters golf tournament over all the hundreds of other golfing championships, is that the Masters is very difficult for a player to qualify just to enter. It is the smallest field of the 4 major golf championships. You need to be good. You need to be a "Master" of golf. Here is a list of the criteria that make it difficult for all the golfing pros to get in:

  • Former winners of The Masters
  • Winners of the last five U.S. Opens
  • Winners of the last five British Opens
  • Winners of the last five PGA Championships
  • Winners of the last three Players Championships
  • Winner and runner-up from the last U.S. Amateur Championship
  • Winner of the last British Amateur Championship
  • Winner of the last Asian Amateur Championship
  • Winner of the last U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship
  • Winner of the last U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship
  • The top 16 finishers (including ties) from last year's Masters tournament
  • The top 8 finishers (including ties), from last year's U.S. Open
  • The top 4 finishers (including ties) from last year's British Open
  • The top 4 finishers (including ties) from last year's PGA Championship
  • The top 30 finishers on last year's PGA Tour money list Winners of PGA Tour events from the previous Masters through this year's Masters, providing those tournaments awarded full FedEx Cup points (no opposite-field tournaments qualify)
  • All players who qualified for last year's Tour Championship
  • The Top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking at the end of the previous year
  • The Top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking published in the week prior to this year's Masters

The Green Jacket

It's weird but the Green Jacket is like the Stanley Cup of Hockey, The Super Bowl of Football... it's a casual suit jacket! I guess because it's so different than any other trophy in all other sports, the uniqueness of the Green Jacket makes the players want one that much more. Unfortunately, anyone can get a knock-off Green Jacket in the streets of Hong Kong for under $50.

Player Predictions?

There are so many amazing golfers in the World today, it's hard to pick who will win. However, Tiger Woods is looking pretty good these days again after a long drought of inactivity. Here is the main competition of this year's Masters field.

  • Tiger Woods
  • Phil Mickelson
  • Rory McIlroy
  • Justin Rose
  • Bubba Watson
  • Adam Scott
  • Matt Kuchar
  • Keegan Bradley
