Have you ever wanted to know what the world looks like from the perspective of a flower? Nature documentary The Wings of Life has the answer! Check out The Wings of Life DVD + Blu-ray Review!

The Wings of Life

The Wings of Life uses state of the art film technology and time-lapse photography to tell the story of the delicate relationship between flowers and the insects, birds and even bats! From rainforests to deserts, the flowers are the glue that keep the circle of life together! Told from the point of view of the flowers, this new Disneynature documentary gets you up-close and personal with some of the most beautiful plantlife and fascinating bugs and birds around the world. The Wings of Life is narrated by Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep, and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Louie Schwartzberg.

Narrator Meryl Streep said: “In the chaos and craziness of our day-to-day lives, few of us stop to consider what’s happening behind the scenes in nature that makes our lives possible, this film is a stunning adventure that literally takes flight alongside all kinds of winged creatures—butterflies, bees and bats—each working hard to pollinate our planet.”

The Wings of Life hits stores on DVD + Blu-ray April 16th (just in time to celebrate Earth Day!)

The Bottom Line

At first the point of view of flower might seem a little strange (and between the bugs and the rain not every shot is pretty, some of it can be gross!) but the incredible close-up shots of the flowers unfurling and the activity that surrounds them quickly show why this point of view was so original for a nature documentary. Each flower is a hub of activity to winged wildlife that we rarely get to see up close (and definitely never like this!) In fact, you may even start asking yourself if this is nature documentary at all since getting up that close and seeing such bright colors seems almost impossible! It must be CGI, right? Not so! It's all real! Another great addition to the Disneynature family of films, The Wings of Life is a unique nature doc and offers an amazing look at wildlife normally seen with the help of a magnifying glass (just check out the scenes with the Monarch butterflies, or the nighttime shots of the bats and the cactus flowers!) It's especially beautiful when seen on Blu-Ray, the definition on the flowers and bugs will blow you away.

Oddly, The Wings of Life DVD + Blu-ray doesn't come with any extras or special features, which is strange since it's only natural to have behind-the-scenes footage for a nature documentary. The flower's point of view is an interesting idea, but there will definitely be some viewers who don't find it as appealing as seeing the story through the eyes of an animal.
