The Vampire Diaries: Season 4, Episode 23 :: Graduation

May 17, 2013

This week on The Vampire Diaries, the gang says goodbye to high school. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “Graduation” (Season 4, Episode 23), which aired May 16th, 2013 to see what you missed.

Graduation

High school has come to an end for Elena, Caroline and the rest of their friends. They are preparing for graduation while dealing with the fact that ghosts are still haunting Mystic Falls. Ever since Bonnie dropped the veil in last week’s episode, they have been visited by ghosts of episodes past – including Jeremy, Alaric, Grams and now Lexi! Stefan is more than happy to see his old best friend Lexi while Elena is enjoying some quality time with Jeremy and Alaric. Also, it turns out our suspicions were right: Bonnie really is dead.

Fight for the Cure

Connor, the vampire hunter who died and passed his duties along to Jeremy, is also back and gives Elena a call. Apparently he wants the cure so he can become a human and finish off Silas. Alaric steps in and takes care of Connor. A dead Vaughn also wants the cure, and he shows up at the Salvatore house and shoots Damon with werewolf venom-laced bullets. So who really has the cure? Damon does, and he gives it to Elena as a graduation gift. She doesn’t want to take it though – she wants to give it to the ghosts who are threatening to destroy Mystic Falls. Damon insists she take it, and Elena still resists. Turns out their sire bond is broken, so Elena can finally make a choice about who she loves based on free will. Stefan confesses that he still loves her and would be with her if she would just choose him. But, Elena loves Damon, so she chooses him.

The only way to save Damon from a slow painful death is for him to take the cure or for him to get some of Klaus’ blood. Caroline gives Klaus a call, begging him to come help them. But he doesn’t pick up so she has to leave a message. Klaus shows up at graduation and surprises Caroline. He helps Damon and tells Caroline he has a gift for her. For graduation, he will give her Tyler’s freedom. He says that while Tyler was her first love, he wants to be her last love. We don’t know how this will happen once he is off in New Orleans for his new show.

Raise the Veil

Katherine is upset that Bonnie won’t give her the immortality she was promised, and she takes it out on Elena. The two fight it out at the high school. Just when it looks like Elena will lose she slips the cure down Katherine’s throat, turning her into a human. What does this mean?! Meanwhile, Bonnie is trying to finish the spell that will bring the veil back up (and make her death a reality). Jeremy says he wants to be with her in his final moments in Mystic Falls before he is brought back to the other side, but he doesn’t realize that she is dead and will be going to that side too. Once the spell is complete Jeremy realizes that he is still in Mystic Falls…alive. Bonnie’s original spell (which caused her to die) really did bring him back to life!

Doppelganger Dilemma

Stefan has been charged with disposing of Silas’s body (from last episode). He takes the body to a cliff, but when he opens the bag he realizes it is filled with rocks, not a dead body. Turns out, Silas is not dead. When Bonnie died, the spell that controlled him was essentially broken, so now he is free and alive. Not only that, but he has big news. When he created the immortality spell, ensuring his everlasting life, he was forced to create a second version of himself that could die. Essentially, a doppelganger. Who does his shadow self look like? Stefan! Silas stakes Stefan and locks him in a safe, throwing it over the cliff.
