Kidzworld Talks to the Cast of Big Hero 6

Nov 07, 2014

Big Hero 6 hits opens in theaters today and Kidzworld got a chance to talk to the voice cast. The film is about a young kid named Hiro (Ryan Potter) living in the fictional city of San Fransokyo. He’s a brilliant robot designer, but since his parents died, he doesn’t have much direction. When tragedy strikes, his friends Wasabi (Damon Wayans Jr.), Fred (T.J. Miller), Honey Lemon (Genesis Rodriguez), Go Go (Jamie Chung) and the robot Baymax (Scott Adsit) help him fight the bad guy — with science! Check out what the cast had to say about the film.

Jamie Chung (Go Go) was blown away when she saw the film for the first time!

“[It was] so cool. I mean, literally, like the first ten seconds seeing the Disney logo, you’re like, my god, this is real! We’re part of it and then the first ten minutes of the film, like the city that they imagined, and then brought to life kinda blew my mind coming from- growing up in San Francisco and seeing a futuristic version of it. I thought it was pretty rad. I love my character. She didn’t say anything the first half of the movie until they got to the car chase, and then she’s screaming her head off and that was obviously a choice for the character- a woman of few words. But it was quite magical to see it come to life.

Genesis Rodriguez (Honey Lemon) loves science and Star Wars!

Genesis told us that she was part of a battle bot club as a kid and loves Star Wars. She thinks it’s great that Big Hero 6 makes science look cool. “I hope that with this movie, they are gonna inspire kids that want to be scientists again, you know? I said this before-we’re living in a world where a lot of people are putting their personal life on social media and some kids just wanna be famous. I hope that with this movie, we can inspire kids to wanna be real super heroes with their brains- that they can achieve incredible things just by education and just doing really well in school. Hopefully, we can get some really good scientists after this movie.”

Ryan Potter (Hiro) had to deal with his voice changing during the shoot

“Actually, what you hear in the film was what my voice sounded like about a year and six months ago. And my voice has progressively gotten deeper. I've always had a deep voice, even as a little kid I've had a fairly deep voice and, I think the last like six months of recording it-we started to … So, I have to go up? I have to come back up here to be in Hiro's register and kind of high energy but towards the end have to find his level of his voice. But my natural speaking voice is a little bit deeper. So we had to find his voice but it was just me throughout the film.”

Scott Adsitt (Baymax) tried really hard not to cry during certain scenes

There are definitely some sad scenes in the film, and Scott Adsitt who was the voice of the robot Baymax had to sound … well, like a robot. He told us, “I had to stop several times because I started to cry. And that wasn't allowed so, I would say give me a second, and I had to reel it in and, and get Baymax without a warble again.”

Damon Wayans Jr. (Wasabi) thinks Wasabi is a better actor than he is.

Damon Wayans Jr. told us that the very girlie scream he gives in the film is really how he screams in real life! He also loves the character. “The animated characters have been some of my best acting work,” he said. “I just put my voice but the way they animate those guys, like the certain facial expressions that I would make reacting to something - I would just be like Wow. Wasabi is a better actor than me.”

T.J. Miller (Fred) wants a very unusual superpower

T.J. Miller’s Fred has a song in the film that will make you laugh until you can’t breath. He told us that there is actually a three-minute version of it that we might see on the DVD/Blu-ray. He also told us what superpower he’d want in real life. “Lately, I've been saying, I would want the power to kiss my own elbows because nobody can do that. I mean, I don't know if you guys have ever tried. It's impossible. So if I could do that, I could bet with people and win a lot of bets and it would just be like a fun party trick and so Conan O'Brien said I was aiming low but I don't think that's true.”
