As one of the most recognizable faces in film, television, dance, music, and fashion today there’s no denying that Zendaya’s star has risen to incredible heights over the past few years.

Whether you know and love her from her shows on the Disney Channel, feature films like Spider-man: Homecoming, or just became a fan after seeing her dress light up the Met Gala this year, here are some fun facts that are sure to surprise you about one of our favorite celebs.

The Legend Herself

  • Her full name is Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman.
  • She was born in Oakland, CA in 1996.
  • She became interested in theater and dance when she was a kid in the Bay Area and was a student at Oakland Institute of the Arts.
  • She performed at the Shakespeare theater where her mother worked.
  • She is nearly six feet tall at 5’10” and has said that she may have pursued basketball as a career if it weren't for the success of her current jobs.

TV

  • Her first major role was Rocky Blue on the Disney Channel show "Shake It Up".
  • She was a producer on "K.C. Undercover" in addition to starring as a teen spy on the show.

  • In the latest version of the Spider-man movies, Zendaya stars as Peter Parker’s love interest MJ.
  • In Spider-man MJ no longer stands for Mary Jane, it stands for Michelle Jones.

  • She is in the Kidz Bop music video for the song “Hot n Cold.”
  • She and Selena Gomez crossed paths as dancers on a Sears commercial before they were big stars.
  • She collaborated with Bella Thorne on a song called “Watch Me” in 2011.
  • She was a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" in 2013.

  • She was a model for Macy’s, Mervyn’s, and Old Navy as a kid.
  • She was a guest judge on "Project Runway: Under the Gunn" in 2014.
