Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: GC, PC, PS2 & Xbox Game Review

Dec 27, 2006

The Charlie and the Chocolate Factory movie has arrived so, of course, there's a video game based on it! Gamers on the Gamecube, Playstation 2 and Xbox can twiddle their thumbs at it. But, is this game fun or foul? Check out our review for the 411.

What's up in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Game?

You get to play as Charlie Bucket, the Golden Ticket Winner, as you go on the grand tour of Willy Wonka's famous factory. But, it's up to you to order the Oompa-Loompas around to fix all the problems the other kids cause.

Sugary Sweetness in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Game

The candy isn't the best part of this game - it's the kids' chattering. All the voice actors from the movie, except Johnny Depp, are back and do the voices of the kids, which is great. It's also cool to be able to order the Oompa-Loompas around.

What's Bitter in the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Game?

This game has so many problems it hurts. The biggest one is that the controls feel like they've been dipped in mud and smacked with a hammer a few times. It's frustrating to control the Ooompa-Loompas and they don't even do any of the awesome singing and dancing from the movie! If you do manage to get the controls working, the game is really short too.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Fun Factor

Low, really low. It sounds cool and it's almost a [kwlink]good game[/kwlink], but it falls apart into a horribly awkward mess. Don't bother with it unless you're a huge fan of the movie.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Thumbs Up:

  • Easy to learn to play.
  • Music and voices are great.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Thumbs Down:

  • The controls are horrible.
  • No Oompa-Loompa singing and dancing.
  • The Ooompa-Loompas are dumber than mud.
