We review the new Pokemon card game EX Delta Species set and starter decks!

Get ready for a pile of new Pokemon as the EX Delta Species expansion set for the Pokemon card game explores the Holon region. This new region is packed with new kinds of energy and new Delta Pokemon. Plus, there are two new Starter Decks - Steeplechase and Breakthrough. Here's our review of the new Pokemon cards!

Pokemon TCG: EX Delta Species: Breakthrough Deck

This Electricity and Grass deck is all about special conditions and slammin' benched Pokemon. It doesn't have Pokemon with huge attacks, but it has lots of ways to paralyze, poison and confuse your opponent's Pokemon. It also has some of the new dual-type Delta Pokemon and new Holon Trainer cards to help you draw Metal Energy and Metal Pokemon.

Pokemon TCG: EX Delta Species: Steeplechase

This Fire deck burninates and it burninates good! With lots of Pokemon with strong attacks it can clobber things really well. It also has a Porygon2 Pokemon for extra card-drawing power, some new dual-type Delta Pokemon and Holon Trainer cards to help you draw Metal Energy and Metal Pokemon.

Pokemon TCG: EX Delta Species: Breakthrough vs. Steeplechase

These decks are almost even cuz Breakthrough can't do as much damage as Steeplechase, but Steeplechase has Pokemon that are weak against the Breakthrough Pokemon. If the Steeplechase player doesn't use the Taillow Pokemon, they have an advantage

Pokemon TCG:EX Delta Species: New Cards

The best part of every Pokemon set is all the new cards it adds to the game. Here's what the EX Delta Species set has in it!

  • Holon Energy - There are three new Energy cards, Fighting/Fire, Grass/Lightning and Water/Psychic. They provide one standard energy and, if you have an Energy of their type on the same Pokemon, they give extra powers.
  • Ditto - There are 10 Ditto Pokemon and they have the power to swap with each other before they attack, even from in your deck, so you can always use the Ditto Pokemon you need to face your opponent's Pokemon.
  • Energy Pokemon - These Pokemon can be used to battle normally, or they can be attached to your other Pokemon as energy cards!
  • Delta Pokemon - These Pokemon are from the Holon region and are effected by certain cards.
  • Holon Trainer Cards - These Trainer cards are powerful, letting you draw up to 12 cards at once, or search your deck for Metal Energy cards, but you have to discard a card as you use them.

Rockin' Pokemon Cards in EX Delta Species

The Holon Energy cards in this set are strong, all the Metal Energy and Metal Pokemon are great and, if you get enough Delta Pokemon, you can use some of the new Trainer cards to make a really strong deck. The biggest problem is that the starter decks are fairly weak. New Pokemon Trainers should grab one Starter Deck and then Booster Packs, experienced Pokemon Trainers should skip the Starter Deck.

Pokemon TCG: EX Delta Species Thumbs Up:

  • Great new Holon Energy cards.
  • The strongest Skarmory ever!
  • Lots of Metal Energy and Metal Pokemon.

Pokemon TCG: EX Delta Species Thumbs Down:

  • The starter decks are weak.
  • You need a lot of Delta Pokemon to use them well.

Pokemon TCG: EX Delta Species Rating: 3
