She's The Man Movie Review

Dec 27, 2006

Amanda Bynes suits up for her role as a boy in She's The Man. Find out if this flick, based on the Shakespeare play, Twelfth Night, is worth checking out or if it just falls flat.

She's The Man - Boy Meets Girl

hen Viola Hastings' soccer team is cut at her high school, she devises a plan to prove her athletic worth. Her twin brother Sebastian has decided to ditch the first two weeks at his new high school to tour London with his band, so without his knowledge, Viola disguises herself as him and takes his place. She dons a wig, wraps herself in tenser bandages and attempts to talk, walk and act like a boy. Her only goal is to make the soccer team and beat the snot out of the boys' team of her school - including her now ex-boyfriend!

She's The Man - Girl Meets Boy

Who knew things would get so complicated when Viola decided to impersonate her brother? At first, she's the laughing stock of the student body - an outcast-freak who gets stuck on the second string on the soccer team, eating lunch by herself. But, with some help from her friends, she's soon the big (wo)man on campus. She convinces her roommate, hunky soccer player Duke, to help her make first string if she convinces the prettiest girl in school, Olivia, to date him. Only problem? Olivia is crushing on Sebastian (who is really Viola) and Viola is crushing on Duke (who thinks she's a guy). Whoa, talk about an identity crisis!

She's The Man - Total Transformation

Amanda Bynes is, as always, hilarious in this movie. She may not look very much like a boy (she's much too cute and delicate to blend in amongst the rugged, rough-bodied boys of the movie) but she still manages to convince her classmates of her manliness, one way or another. You'll love watching her flounder her way through challenging situations like showering with the guys after a soccer practice or remembering that boys don't bond with one another the way girls do. Amanda is great at the slap-stick but also pulls off some great heart-felt scenes too! Aside from the odd cheesy moment, this movie really flows and is a great way to introduce yourself to Shakespeare's Twelfth Night tale.

She's The Man - DVD Features

If you're an Amanda Bynes fan, the She's the Man DVD is definitely for you! It doesn't have a ton of crazy features, but you will get to check out some fun deleted scenes, a gag reel and a behind-the-scenes featurette. You can also test your knowledge of the flick after you've seen it with a fun, interactive pop-up trivia game.

She's The Man - Bottom Line

She's The Man is a really funny movie and is enjoyable for boys, girls, boys pretending to be girls and even girls pretending to be boys. There are lots of laughs, great romantic entanglements and a pretty great girl-power message. Amanda Bynes blows her teen queen competition out of the water with her acting skills, so skip watching that Hilary Duff DVD again and check out She's The Man!
