Title: The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless
Author: Ahmet Zappa
Ages: 9+
Rating: 5

Minerva McFearless is an 11 year-old monsterminator from a long line of monsterminators. Her brother is a nine year-old tag-along who likes to burry Minerva's stuffed animals in the back yard. Together, this unlikely duo must save their father from the king of the monsters, Zarmaglorg! Check out this first novel from Ahmet Zappa (son of rock star Frank Zappa)!

The Trouble with Trouble

When Minerva and Max learn their father is secretly a monsterminator, they want in on the action. But they get more action they can handle when he's kidnapped by Zamaglorg, king of the monsters. Armed with Monstranomicon, a talking monster book, the two head to the dangerous depths of Castle Doominstinkinfart in search of their father.

A Glorchtastic Plan

Minerva and Max enlist the help of a one-eyed dog named Mr. Devilstone and countless gross recipes to battle Grumplemisers, Krunkadillions, Glorches and Howleewoofs on their quest to save their father. They also reserve a little energy for mini-battles amongst themselves!

Picture Perfect

The art in The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless is particularly noteworthy. Black and white photos - and photo-illustrations - illustrate the story's events and the author, Ahmet Zappa, even stands in as Minerva and Max's dad. There are doodles by author on every page and other designs too. There's no question that this book is as interesting visually as it is to read.

The Bottom Line

The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless is a rip-roaring adventure that will pull you into its magical world. You'll love it as much for its zany characters and plot as for its quirky art. No wonder it's being made into a feature film due out in 2007!
