Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is the best toy store in the world, but can the movie about it match up? We've got the review!

Do You Believe in Magic?

Mr. Magorium (Dustin Hoffman) is a 243 year-old toy shop owner who is as strange and wonderful as his beloved store. But when he decided his time on this earth is wrapping up, he begins to make plans to hand his legacy over to the store's current manager, the young Molly Mahoney (Natalie Portman).

In a Young Girl's Heart

Molly loves the store but worries she's stuck there and won't ever achieve her dreams of being the composer she longs to be. She's also pretty sure that she won't be able to control the magic that runs rampant in the wondrous store. Molly puts all of her energy into convincing Mr. Magorium that it's not his time to die, but he's already made up his mind.

Music Can Free Her

When Mr.Magorium finally dies, the store turns dark and frightening. Its magic power is sapped and it becomes a sinister place. Soon it's for sale and everything seems to be going wrong. Molly doesn't think she can find the strength to save the store, but with a little help from a block of wood, a friendless boy named Eric (Zach Mills), and a counting mutant (Jason Bateman), she just might find the magic inside of her.

DVD Features

The Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium DVD comes with lots of cool bonus features like a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie and a ton of (okay, five) cool featurettes. It also has a paper airplane tutor, so you can learn to make and fly your own! It's well worth checking out.

Bottom Line

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium is a fast-paced, fun film that's perfect for the holiday season, while remaining refreshingly Santa-free. While the story itself is fairly familiar (*hem* Charlie and the Chocolate Factory *hem*) the overall whimsy of the flick keeps it totally watchable. Check it out with the whole fam!

Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium Rating: 3
