Kindness

Posted about 27 days ago by Peny

A whopping 250 cars. That's how long the line stretched at a McDonald's drive-thru in Lakeland, Florida. No special coupon. No rare Happy Meal toy. It was just a normal day . . . until customers found themselves part of something much bigger than a Big Mac.

It all started when a woman stopped to pick up breakfast. When she paid for her order, she also paid for the car behind her. Her kindness started a chain reaction that went on all morning and into the lunch hour. In the end, 250 cars had passed through, each driver buying food for a total stranger in line behind them.

Kindness is contagious. When we do something nice for someone else, people take notice—and it changes us. We heard that in today's Club episode, “Thirty Jays Hath September.” Mr. Whittaker made Jay and Brian perform 30 good deeds (one a day for a month) after the boys hid at Whit's End and ruined his freezer full of ice cream. At every turn, Jay tried to do as little as possible. But he and Brian discovered that even small acts of kindness can mean a lot.

It’s no accident that God placed you where you are. Even if it doesn’t feel like an ideal place (like being stuck in line at McDonald’s), God wants to use you there. In Jeremiah 29:4-7, God’s people were captives in a strange land. Instead of whining or rebelling, the Lord told them to settle in: “Build houses and settle down; plant gardens and eat what they produce. Marry and have sons and daughters; find wives for your sons and give your daughters in marriage, so they too may have sons and daughters. Increase in number there and do not decrease. Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”

Where has God put you? Make yourself comfortable. Then be a blessing to others.
