Paying a Price
Holes is all about a boy named Stanley Yelnats who has been falsely accused of stealing a pair of sneakers (you'll find out why if you crack open the book), and sent to Camp Green Lake - a camp for boys gone bad. The boys punishment at Camp Green Lake is not your average solitary confinement. Instead, detainees must dig holes in the middle of the Texan desert. Strange, huh?Family Curse
Of course, Stanley blames his misfortune on his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather. You see, it's said that the Yelnats' family was cursed long ago when Stanley's great-great grandfather broke a promise with a gypsy. Ever since, bad luck has followed them wherever they go. Lucky for Stanley, the key to their curse just might be unlocked at Camp Green Lake... if he digs deep enough.
The Bottom Line
If you loved the movie, you should definitely pick up a copy of the book. Holes comes complete with color photos from the Disney film and it's sure to fill in all the dirty details that the movie leaves out about Stanley, the curse and the mystery of Camp Green Lake!
