1Hey Coach,
I am obsessed with hockey, my favorite player in Sidney Crosby!! I just can't play like him though. We've played 10 games this year and I haven't scored yet! I've had a few chances, but just blew it. Give me tips on how I can get some goals!

Fogel84117,
Sounds like you are in a little bit of a slump, but I wouldn't pay too much attention to it. Believe it or not, even guys like Sidney Crosby and Jarome Iginla go through droughts when they go weeks without scoring. The important thing is to not get discouraged and to always be ready when the opportunity comes.

The best way to get goals is to make yourself as versatile as possible. Work on scoring from all angles - close or far. Practice your wrist shot, slap shot and one-on-one moves. Practice the accuracy of your shot by trying to hit the same target. Sometime you will only have a brief opening to score a goal, so you have to be accurate or else you will miss or the goalie will save it.

Ask the goalie on your team if you can practice some moves on them after practice. The more ways you know how to score, the more you will actually score! Also be observant when you are on the ice. Try to find spots on the ice where you can be open so your teammates can find you, or stay around the goal so you can rebound your teammates' misses. In other words, just be active. You are not going to be racking up goals by standing in one place being timid, you've got to attack!

But in order to do this you need to be in outstanding shape. Two months before the season starts make sure you do a lot of cardio and do a lot of skating. If you are in tip top shape it is going to be a lot easier to out work your defender and have the stamina to keep attacking the goalie with an assortment of shots! As far as the mental aspect is concerned, you have to be tough. If you are not scoring, you have to stay aggressive and confident. If your teammates see that you are timid, they will be reluctant to pass to you. So, if you want to score like Crosby you need to be confident like him!

Do you need tips or advice on sports, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
