World of Warcraft Card Game: Magtheridon’s Lair Review

Face the mighty lord of the pit with the Magtheridon’s Lair raid deck for the World of Warcraft card game! Here’s Gary’s review.

Deep in the stinkiest pit full of creepy goons, even worse than the change room after a football game, lurks Magtheridon! He's a massive dinosaur-demon-thing with his HEAD ON FIRE and a pack of cultists keeping him chained up so they can drain his blood and use it like super-powered red bull. Um... gross? Yeah, it's time to put an end to this by grabbing a pack of heroes and stomping the whole bunch of 'em flat. Here's our review of the Magtheridon's Lair Raid Deck!

Big, Green and his HEAD is on FIRE

In this raid you and your friends barge in on a chained up Magtheridon and five cultists. You have five turns to squish 'em before Magtheridon breaks free cuz then things get really ugly. As you're battling, Magtheridon unleashes huge attacks and the cultists summon monsters. You need to deliver 100 damage to win. Good luck!

Battle the Lord of the Pit!

Beating Magtheridon is an epic battle for three to five players. With the right kind of deck you can have a seriously crazy battle with minions getting knocked over like bowling pins as the huge boss stomps around. The teamwork to use the Manticron Cubes is pretty cool too.

Getting Stomped

As huge and powerful as Magtheridon is, battling him isn't all that fun. There are almost no cool minions to squish, or awesome moments to talk about. Instead it's a constant struggle to heap 100 points of damage on the bruiser. It's like eating a massive peanut butter sandwich while someone kicks you in the shins repeatedly.

Epic Battle or Epic Fail?

Unfortunately, the Magtheridon's Lair Raid Deck is a lot like the video game raid - a long drawn-out battle against an opponent the size of a bus. It's not a lot of fun and the treasure isn't fantastic. It's still a great way to test the strength of your hero decks and hang out with your friends, but the Onyxia and Molten Core raid decks are way more fun.

Thumbs Up:

  • A big battle that challenges three to five players.
  • Did we mention that Magtheridon's head is on FIRE?
  • Get someone's parent to play Magtheridon and beat 'em up!
  • Thumbs Down:

  • It takes at least four players for a game.
  • It's not a very exciting battle.
  • Almost no cool minions to squash.
