Dude, Where's My Horse?

Dec 27, 2006

We asked Kidzworld members to tell us their favorite horseback riding stories. Here's a tale about one member's trip to a Texas dude ranch.

One day my mom and I took a ride to this dude ranch out in Texas, where my gramps lives. I was pretty excited. At the dude ranch there were tiny little newborn foals for sale. There was an adorable Arabian foal with sad blue eyes and long white fur. She was the most darling thing. She almost looked like a unicorn.

I begged my mom to buy her and she did. Since we live in a development where there are no farms and people do not keep horses, we sent her to my other grandparents' farm out on Long Island. I named her Sandy.

Every Saturday I would go out there to feed and brush her and have fun with her. Finally, when she was old enough to ride, I rode her every chance I could. She became a champion at jumping and Sandy and I entered a contest and won the gold medal.

About three weeks ago Sandy became pregnant and will be having what looks like two baby foals. That's right, twins! I can't ride her for awhile but I can't wait for the arrival of the foals. Sandy is such a great horse and I love her dearly.
