The Jonas Brothers and newcomer Demi Lovato go to summer camp, rock n roll style. Kidzworld registers for an extended stay at Camp Rock.

Waiting on a Dream

Demi Lovato stars as Mitchie Torres, an aspiring singer-songwriter dying to attend Camp Rock, a pricey [KWLINK 3578]summer camp[KWLINK] for talented young performers, but her parents can't afford it. Mitchie's mother, a cook, wants to help her daughter succeed, so she decides to take her catering business to Camp Rock for the summer. Mitchie can finally go to camp... but only if she works in the kitchen.

Oh, Brother

As Mitchie settles in at camp and tries to make friends, like Caitlyn (Alyson Stoner) and the uber-popular Tess (Meaghan Jette Martin), in comes Joe Jonas as Shane Grey, singer for famous band Connect 3 (aka the Jonas Brothers). Shane is being sent to camp by his band mates--brothers Kevin and Nick Jonas--for an attitude adjustment. Between teaching dance classes, Shane overhears Mitchie singing in the kitchen, and starts searching for the face to match the voice. Meanwhile, Mitchie lies to Tess to fit in, saying her mother is president of a big music TV station in China. Shane writes a song, "Gotta Find Her," about the girl with the great voice, while Mitchie tries to keep her kitchen duties a secret, even as she and Shane are getting closer.

Facing the Music

After a big surprise show with Connect 3, Tess divulges Mitchie's secret identity, which turns Shane and everyone else in camp against her. Tess knows its Mitchie's voice that Shane is after, so she plants a bracelet in the kitchen-which makes Mitchie look like a thief. With almost everyone angry with her, and with Tess and her gaggle of popular girls ready to steal the show at the Final Jam, Mitchie will have to fight to even get on stage, never mind to get Shane to realize it was her voice he's been seeking all along!

DVD Features

The Extended Rock Star Edition DVD has tons of awesome extras, from music videos for "Start the Party" and "We Rock" to karaoke, continuing a popular feature from the High School Musical DVD. There's also the Backstage Disney section, which includes behind-the-scenes looks into "Hasta La Vista" and "Too Cool," and a series that teaches you How to Be a Rock Star, with the Jonas Brothers as your personal instructors.

The Bottom Line

Like High School Musical, Camp Rock was first a Disney Channel Original Movie-it aired earlier this summer. Similar to Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato are very charming and likeable in their roles, and they make a great on screen couple. Also like HSM, the songs are fun to sing along to, and are a bit more rockin', thanks to the Jonas Brothers. While it's not as exciting as HSM (probably because HSM has already done the musical thing so well), the movie is still lots of fun, and is a good, light summer flick.
