It's kinda hard to believe that playing video games all day could be a real job, but it is! Kidzworld talked to a video game tester about what his job involves and how he got one of the dopest jobs in the world.
What Does a Video Game Tester Do?
Jai Krisjan has been working as a video game tester for about a year. Basically he plays any uncoming games from Playstation 1 and 2, Gamecube, XBox and PC and looks for inconsistencies that might affect the enjoyment of the game.
"This is done by accessing every possible way of playing the game that any person could ever think of," Jai said. "In basic terms, I play the game a lot and find what makes it bad."
When he finds mistakes he enters them into a database that holds a list of all the problems, and the designers go back and fix them.
"I have to admit, on some days it's silly to actually think of it as work because I really do enjoy just testing the game," Jai said. "I'm living the Peter Pan complex dream of every (kid) I know of."
How do you Become a Video Game Tester?
Jai got the job by answering an ad in the paper from Electronic Arts Canada (EAC) requesting a Quality Assurance Representative (Video Game Tester.) In his interview he just had to prove that he could play video games better than anyone else.
"I knew all my useless hours of playing would one day pay off," Jai said.
How's the Cash?
Jai wouldn't tell Kidzworld exactly how much he makes but said that it is "enough to live comfortably without worry of money problems." However, Kidzworld did some further research and found out that starting wage for video game testers range from about $9 to $11 US.
I think there should be a video game testing place in Wilmington, NC. My name is Kyle and I live in Wilmington, NC. I love to play video games. I play them every chance I get. I have beaten many video games that I have ever played. I judge games on whether I like them or not. I believe my judement on video games is very accurate to whether a game is good or not. This is why there should be a video game testing place in Wilmington, NC. My hope is that my occupation in the future is to be a video game designer. Maybe being a video game tester when I am young will help fulfill this dream.
