No Country Bumpkin

At 13 years old Taylor became the youngest artist to ever sign a deal with Sony and from the get-go Taylor made it clear that she wanted to write and record her own songs. Her creative vision has brought her from the 2006 breakout single, Tim McGraw to a Grammy Award for Best New Artist, two multi-platinum albums and a massive legion of fans. She’s toured the world, guest starred on CSI and even dated a Jonas brother—all before the age of 20!

2009 Billboard Artist of The Year

Taylor Swift has been named the Billboard artist of the year. It has been a remarkable year for the 19 year old star. Taylor has been topping the charts and has had some of the biggest singles. 2009 finished off nicely for the young country musician.

Kanye-gate!

During Taylor’s acceptance speech for a well-deserved win for Best Female Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, Kanye West stormed the stage, snatched the microphone and declared Beyonce’s Single Ladies to be “one of the best videos of all time.” Kanye handed the mic back to a rattled Taylor who was so upset she couldn’t finish her speech. During Beyonce’s later win she called Taylor on stage where Taylor was finally able to give her speech. Kanye’s rude interruption resulted in a huge media storm—Kanye took to his blog to make an ALL CAPS APOLOGY and two days later on The Jay Leno Show, he apologized again, citing his mother’s death as the catalyst for his bizarre behavior. He also called Taylor personally to make amends. Taylor, good girl that she is, accepted.

Love Story

Rumors swirled that Taylor was dating Lucas Till, her co-star in the "You Belong With Me" video and according to PopStar, there’s some truth to that. Maybe Taylor wants to keep it on the downlow after all the madness that surrounded her last relationship with Joe Jonas—"Forever and Always" was inspired by their breakup! This kicked off a trend in her musical writing.

Taylor has made a habit of turning her heartbreaks into hits, as former boyfriends John Mayer, Jake Gyllenhaal, and Harry Styles can attest! Fans loved her honesty.

Country Cutie to Pop Princess

Taylor had quickly become the reigning Queen of country for a younger generation, and she even managed to win over lots of non-country fans. She realized it was time to do something really bold, and decided to start making her way from her country roots to the pop stardom.

Taylor's 2012 album Red was the first sign that Taylor was letting a little more pop into her music, and while she still wrote some heartfelt ballads, it was obvious that she was turning over a new leaf. Red featured hit songs like "I Knew You Were Trouble," and "We Are Never, Ever Getting Back Together." Her next album, 1989, blew critics and fans away, and climbed up the charts in no time. Taylor considered it her first real "pop" album and the single "Shake it Off" became iconic - she even did a hilarious music video showing that while she might be a great singer, dancing was not her forte!
