Adam Lambert Bio

Sep 30, 2009

If you’re one of the millions of American Idol fans around the world, you already know who Adam Lambert is. In May 2009 the 27-year-old finished as the runner-up to first-place winner Kris Allen on the 8th season of Simon Cowell’s top-rated singing competition. But coming in second hasn’t stopped Adam from moving forward toward his musical goals and aspirations.

Sing Kid

Born on January 29, 1982, in Indianapolis, IN, Adam grew up singing in San Diego, CA. As a 10-year-old kid he was introduced to music by his dad, who loved classic hits from the 1960s, psychedelic tunes from the 1970s and new wave singles from the 1980s. In fact, Adam had access to a huge collection of music – his father was a professional DJ for 15 years.

Adam’s love for music and formal vocal training made him a shoe-in for show biz. He scored a role performing in the musical Wicked’s ensemble and was even asked to step up as an understudy (the person who fills in when the main actor is sick) for one of the main roles in the play.

Eye On The Idol

For his American Idol audition, Adam chose a very challenging song to sing called Bohemian Rhapsody by the 70s rock band Queen. He nailed it and went on to wow American Idol judges and viewers with his range on The Rolling Stones’ song, Satisfaction. Following that performance would have been a challenge for most singers, but Adam received rave reviews for his edition of Black Or White on the show’s Michael Jackson night.

In June 2009 Adam officially came out of the closet, announcing to the world that he is gay and is happily dating Drake LaBry. Adam handled the issue with complete and total class, setting the precedent for acceptance of all people, no matter their sexuality, gender, race, religion or background.

Moving On

Again, coming in second place on American Idol didn’t deter Adam from following his childhood dream – to sing. His debut album is due to be out in stores on November 24, 2009.

Not one to take his newfound fame for granted, Adam is very passionate about raising funds to support arts education in public schools. In fact, he started his very own fundraising contest on DONORSCHOOSE.ORG, a charity that helps support arts programs in public schools. So far Adam’s raised over $200,000 through the contest.
