American Idol Recap :: Friday April 29

Apr 29, 2010

Shakira shakes those hips, Cameron Diaz talks Shrek Forever After and another Idol gets sent home. Find out who makes the Top 5 in this week’s Season 9 American Idol recap!

Highlights

  • Shania Twain mentored the Idols through this week. She emphasized the importance of cross-over appeal. Shania is a country artist firstly, but her music appeals to people who like pop too! The Idols were told to get out of their comfort zone with their song selection and they didn’t disappoint.
  • Aaron Kelly sang a beautiful rendition of "You’ve Got A Way". The judges thought it was his best performance yet. They were equally impressed with Casey James’ performance of "Don’t". Simon said Casey owed a thanks to Shania and sent him over to get a kiss!
  • The judges were (shocker!) less impressed with Crystal Bowersox. They thought she was good, but her performance of the slow-going “No One Needs To Know” put them to sleep.
  • In Wednesday’s episode, Ryan introduced the Idols to Mike Michell, the director of Shrek Forever After. Ryan has a few lines in the movie and the Idols got to try recording some lines of their own before heading to a screening of the movie.
  • Afterwards, Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas made an appearance back on the Idol stage.
  • Rascall Flatts performed then joined Shakira for her new song, “Gypsy.”
  • Lady Antebellum took to the stage with their hit song, “Need You Now.” Did you know lead singer Hillary Scott tried out for Idol twice, but couldn’t make it past the first round?!

Who's Out?

Casey James, Big Mike and Siobhan Magnus were in the bottom three, but Big Mike said he didn’t mind since Casey and Siobhan both gave great performances—there was no shame being in the bottom this week. Alas, the quirky Siobhan was singled out as this week’s loser. She sang “Think” as her last performance then hugged the judges goodbye.

Stay tuned for next week when Harry Connick Jr. mentors the Top 5 Idol hopefuls for Frank Sinatra week. You won’t want to miss Wednesday’s show—rumor is that Lady Gaga will be performing!
