World Cup 2010: Dives and Disgust

Jun 25, 2010

Soccer players… they're quite the enigma. I always wonder what their girlfriends think of them. I know they all make millions of dollars and soccer fans everywhere treat them like Gods, but deep down inside I bet they have a voice telling them just how ridiculous they actually are. Soccer is definitely not a game of chivalry.

Sick of Soccer

Today was nothing short of more embarrassment at these games of the World Cup in South Africa. At first, I was excited to watch these games to update Kidzworld on what's happening in the biggest sporting event in the World, but to be perfectly honest, I am getting quite sick of these soccer players and their antics.

Spanish Spoof

The game between Spain and Chile was full of diving. The worst episode came when Spain's top striker Fernando Torres pretended to be shot dead when Chilean defender Marco Estrada barely clipped his heal as they were running stride for stride on a fast break that led to Spain's 2nd goal.

The Fernando Flop

The foul took place on the far side away from the play, so it's a mystery how the referee could call a red card as the replay showed he wasn't even looking at "the foul". Fernando's paralyzed body dead-to-the-world is probably the only reason why the referee felt obligated to give the red card. Sure enough, Fernando was playing 100% minutes later and Spain went on to win 2-1 and advance to the 2nd round.

Tiago's Trickery

In the most boring game of the World Cup so far, between Portugal and Brazil, the referee actually caught a dive. Portuguese forward Tiago pretended to be pushed in the back in the penalty area. Luckily for Brazil, the referee saw that there was absolutely no contact and he yellow-carded Tiago. The game ended 0-0, but the game was full of acting and it kinda made me want to puke.

Spoiled Soccer Stars

The bottom line is that these players are the most talented athletes of the most popular sport in the World so they are spoiled brats. I think a good way to change the way soccer players dive and cheat is to actually suspend them when video replay shows that they are being dishonest.

Intensified Fooling

So as we go to the elimination rounds, the World Cup will be getting more intense. However with this intensity, I am guessing that the players will do whatever they can to win. Are you sick of it as much as I am? Let us know in the comments below…
