Question by waka.
Hey coach, I'm playing winter lacrosse this year to get ready for the spring. What gear am I gonna need? Could you make the list inclusive as possible? Thanks
Purple and Blue Bruises
Lacrosse Lug
This is a good question because Lacrosse is the one sport where a defender is actually allowed to hit you with his stick. That’s a prescription for purple… unless you have the right gear!
Sharp Shoes
B-Ball Shoes
Let’s start with your running shoes. Most shoe stores don’t carry shoes for lacrosse. If you can’t find lacrosse shoes, I would go with basketball shoes. When you’re running in a Lacrosse game, it’s actually very similar to how basketball players run. There’s lots of pivoting, stop and go. Ankle support is key!
Purchasing Padding
Cross-Checking
Now to stop those vicious cross-checks from making dents on your body. Here’s a list of all the pads you can buy to make life easier.
- Shoulder Pads
- Elbow Pads
- Wrist guards (optional)
- Gloves
- Rib Pads (optional)
- Helmet (certified for lacrosse organization)
- Stick
- Mouth Guard (helps prevent concussions)
Lacrosse players don’t wear any leg padding for some reason. I guess it restricts mobility and speed. If it were me, I would probably wear a couple of tensor bandages on my knees just to prevent all the rug burns.
