Birthdate: December 28, 1990

Birth place: Miami, Florida

You may remember David Archuleta from the seventh season of American Idol, but did you know he was also on the TV show Star Search? Find out more about this musician in his Kidzworld bio.

TV Time

Like many famous artists before him (Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson and Usher to name a few), David Archuleta competed on Star Search 2 when he was only 12 years old. This experience won him the title of Junior Vocal Champion and was his first taste of success.

In 2007, he auditioned for the seventh season of American Idol, and won the judges over with his rendition of “Waiting on the World to Change.” Only 16 years old, he became one of the youngest contestants on the show. David impressed audiences week after week, until it came down to him and David Cook. Unfortunately, David Cook won the season, leaving David Archuleta as the runner up.

Commercial Success

A month after the show, David signed a record deal with Jive Records. His first single “Crush” was an instant success and placed him at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After he released his first self-titled CD, David went on tour with two popular artists: McFly and Demi Lovato. During this time he also made several appearances on TV, first on the Nickelodeon show iCarly and then on Hannah Montana.

David Archuleta’s newest CD, The Other Side of Down, was released October 2010. So far three singles have come from the album, “Something ‘Bout Love,” “Elevator” and “Falling Stars.” The CD debuted at number 13 on the Billboard 200 chart. David announced he will be touring North America in early 2011 to promote the new album.
