The Glee Project Review

Jul 25, 2011

The geniuses behind the hit TV series GLEE have created a new reality show, giving 12 Gleeks the chance to audition for a guest starring role on Glee! Kidzworld reviews The Glee Project!

Twelve weeks, 12 episodes and 12 hopeful contestants fighting for a piece of stardom. It’s the chance of a lifetime - to break into the acting world on the most popular high school dramedy, Glee.

The Themed Episodes

Here’s how it works: To begin each week, the contestants perform their homework assignment (a song fragmented into assigned parts) for a different Glee cast member. The winner receives free one-on-one coaching time with the celeb and a more prominent part in the weeks’ music video.

Next, they tackle a theme, such as vulnerability or individually, by recording a music video. In some episodes, these topics are tough, and involve a lot of soul searching for the contestants. During callbacks, the judges (Ryan Murphy, Robert Ulrich and Zach Woodlee) choose the bottom three, who will each have to perform a song. Based on their performances, the judges will eliminate one contestant.

The elimination is more like a real audition than a reality show. Instead of the judges announcing who will be going home, they post a callback list. The contestants who remain in the competition will find their names on that list. It’s a bit harsh and impersonal, but that’s what you get in the acting business.

The Contestants

The top 12 contestants are:

  • Ellis Wylie (18)
  • Alex Newell (18)
