American Idol: Season 11, Week 15 :: 6 Finalists Compete

Apr 26, 2012

This week on American Idol (Season 11, Week 15), the Top 6 contestants performed two songs each, one from Queen and one of their choosing. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “6 Finalists Compete,” which aired on April 25, 2012, to discover what you missed.

Jessica Sanchez

Jessica’s first performance didn’t show off her vocal ability. Clearly rock songs aren’t her forte. But for her second performance, she sang “Dance With My Father.” Even though this song has been performed many times on American Idol, Jennifer Lopez admitted that Jessica’s rendition was her favorite.

Skylar Laine

Skylar stole the show last night with her first big Queen performance. The judges all agreed that she won round one. Her personal choice for her second song didn’t have the same pow as the first, but it wasn’t bad.

Joshua Ledet

Joshua never fails to impress the judges. His first was a little bit screechy, but the second, which was much softer than his usual song choices, blew the judges away. Both performances earned him a standing ovation, which, Skylar later calculated, brought him up to twelve standing O’s for the season.

Elise Testone

After last week’s unfair critiques, the judges were all praise for Elise last night. They said she finally incorporated the passion and emotion that has been missing from her early performances. Or maybe the judges just realized how wrong they were last week and tried to rectify the situation last night.

Phillip Phillips

Phillip’s first performance was much the same as it always is, good enough to earn praise and some flirtatious looks from Jennifer. But his second song was a bit of a risk. He sang something a bit too artsy and unknown for J-Lo’s liking and she insisted that he stick to mainstream so that he makes it to the finale.

Hollie Cavanagh

Hollie finally earned the judges' praise this week. Her Queen song was okay, perhaps better than previous weeks. But it was during her second song - "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus - that she really shined.

Elimination

After a long streak of male eliminations, three girls wound up in the bottom three this week - Hollie, Elise and Skylar. Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Elise, who had a pretty good run considering she landed a spot in the bottom three almost every week since the Top 13.
