Pretty Little Liars: Season 4, Episode 1:: 'A' is for A-L-I-V-E

Fires to Funerals

Hold on to your seats PLL fans, the season 4 opener was full of reveals - and even more conceals - as the secrets spill out after the lodge fire. After abandoning Wilden's car by the side of the road, the girls discover that there's a dead pig in the trunk (ew!) and also that Wilden's body was bound up in the back of the car - making the girls look like the culprits (A's work of course). They attend Det. Wilden's funeral to cover their tracks. There's a mysterious veiled girl at the service and the girls are forced to turn to Mona for answers - she appears to be targeted by A, but you never know with Mona. Did Red Coat save the girls at the lodge fire? Was Melissa the only one dressed as the Queen of Hearts at the ball (Mona claims Wilden was one as well)? What will we learn for the Thornhill notebook that Spencer picked up? So many questions!

Daydreaming

If there's something you can't fault PLL on, it's the ability to misdirect their audience and almost make your heart stop. Now that Ezra has a family to think about, he tells Aria that he simply can't turn down the job at Rosewood and she'll simply have to find a way to deal with it. When she's called into the Vice Principal's office it looks like the cover is blown on their romance, and Ezra is getting hauled away from the high school in handcuffs - until we realize that Aria is daydreaming! She realizes it would be safest for her and Ezra to see other people, rather than have her looking wistfully at him during class all the time.

California Love

Take a turn away from the Ezria drama and you'll see that some of our other fave couples in Rosewood are still weathering the storm, for example Toby and Spencer are closer than ever, although at the end when we see him driving Mona's camper of secrets, we have a few questions about his future involvement with A. And on an even sunnier note, Paige is going to college in San Francisco - and she wants Emily to join her! Emily is on board with this plan and the two seem closer than ever.
