Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 :: Playstation Game Review

Dec 27, 2006

The Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 video game has finally hit stores in North America. This old school Playstation 1 game has been available in Japan and Europe since '95 but now you can score a copy without having to hop on a cloud and fly around the world! The problem is, this fighting game is such a stinker, you'd be better off staying home and folding your socks.

The Set-Up

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 has 22 different fighters and five more you can unlock. It has everyone from Goku to Super Buu and even Master Roshi! You can play tournament games, battle your friends with multiplayer games or just fight against the computer to practice your skills and earn points to build up your fighters.

The Problems

The problem is, Dragonball Z: Ultimate Battle 22 is eight years old and it shows. The graphics look like they crawled out from the '80s, the controls are sketchy and the voices are all in Japanese. Unless you're a hardcore Dragonball Z fanatic, skip this bomb and pick up a copy of Dragonball Z: Budokai for the Playstation 2 instead.

How Hard Is The Game?

It's pretty easy to learn the controls and you can choose the difficulty.

Age Rating: Teen.

Thumbs Up:

  • It makes a great coaster.
  • Powering up your fighters is fun.
  • It makes Dragonball Z: Budokai seem even cooler.

  • Thumbs Down:

  • It's ancient.
  • Weak controls.
  • Absolutely no plot.
  • Graphics that crawled out of the '80s and wouldn't die.
  • Japanese dialogue makes it hard to understand.
