Quiz the coach helps teens and tweens with sports and fitness related issues and problems like obesity, healthy eating questions, skateboard tricks and P.E. dilemnas. - Page 3

So ya dig sports but need some help with your game? Don't understand some of the rules of football, basketball or hockey? Got a gripe about P.E. class, skateboarders, cheerleading, coaches, or anything? Why not ?

1Hey Coach,
I tried out for the basketball team last year and I didn't make it. It has really been bothering me because the coach only pays attention to the kids that he knows at tryouts. And the way that he knows them is either if they do the announcements in the morning or if they get in trouble with him a lot. It shows that he doesn't pay attention to everyone because they have only won one game and I'm better than almost everyone on the team. What should I do different at next year's tryouts?

Hey witenite

It looks like you need to spend the off-season working on your b-ball game and working on getting the coach to notice who you are. If the coach only seems to pay attention to kids who read the announcements, then why not volunteer to read the announcements? You could use the opportunity to make up your own announcement which says, "Basketball tryouts will start next week. I'm better than most players but didn't make the team last year because the coach only pays attention to kids he knows. I'm hoping the coach notices me this year."

That should get the coach to at least remember your first name. If that doesn't work, you could also make more of an effort to get in trouble. When I was in school, the easiest methods I found for getting in trouble were skipping class, not doing my homework, and randomly attacking other students who had braces or wore uncool clothes. These behaviors will likely get the coach to take notice of who you are, but it won't matter because you'll probably get expelled. Then all your hard work will be in the toilet. Something tells me you're better off simply introducing yourself to the coach at the beginning of the season and letting him know that you're excited about playing basketball for him.

Do you need tips or advice on sports, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
