1 Hey Coach,
What's wrong with Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter? They both are really sucking this year.

Hey Yanksfan52,

It's still a bit too early on in the baseball season to start panicking about A-Rod's and Jeter's hopeless hitting - but they've definitely been bad enough to cause George Steinbrenner's blood pressure to rise faster than A-Rod's bank account. Alex Rodriguez is on pace to hit less than 30 homeruns and 80 RBIs. Those aren't bad numbers if you're the starting third baseman for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, but no where close to good enough if you play third base for the Yankees and are the highest paid player in all of baseball. Derek Jeter, for his part, is playing like he belongs on the Columbus Clippers, not the Bronx Bombers. Through 34 games, DJ is hitting a pathetic .210, with just homeruns.

So, what's their problem? Are they both on one of these new low-carb diets? Have they stopped eating their Wheaties? Well, I think they're both just adjusting to new positions in the lineup. Derek Jeter has taken over as the Yankees leadoff hitter (replacing Alfonso Soriano, who was traded to Texas for Alex Rodriguez) and he's had problems adapting to this new role. A-Rod is adjusting to a new position both on the field and in the batting lineup. He's playing third base, after spending the first 10 years of his career playing shortstop and is hitting in the number 2 spot, behind Jeter. This means he's having to concentrate on getting on base, rather than driving in runs. The only reason A-Rod's and Derek Jeter's poor performance hasn't been a bigger deal is because the Yankees have so much talent and are still in first place. You can be sure that by the time the pennant race heats up, both Jeter and A-Rod will be batting on full cylinders and creating offense like they're expected to.

Do you have a question on sports, P.E. class, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
