Anyone Can Make a CD That Sells

Dec 27, 2006

It really burns my butt that Joe-Blow, who doesn't have a musical bone in his body, can go to a studio and make a CD that people will actually buy. All they need is the cash, the contacts and the looks - then they're set.

So they go to the recording studio, get hooked up to some fancy electronics which will alter their less-than-average voices, get some dancers and funky clothes and they're good to go. What blows my mind is the number of CD's they'll sell - LOADS!

Why is it that everyone is gobbling up this fabricated junk? This kind of over-produced music is played through a sound system while the group dances around on stage, lip-syncing or only singing the main vocals. Even though these groups don't write their own material, it's still talent isn't it? Oh wait, no it's not!

I'm not saying that a band has to write their own music but it would be nice if these groups did something musical. It's a joke that they call themselves musicians when they should be called performers because it's more accurate to say they are acting on stage. Doesn't anyone appreciate a singer with great vocals and a wicked band?

People, ask yourselves why are you buying this stuff? "Cuz they're cute," is not a good answer either. I know rock's dead at the moment, but there is good pop music out there - people that can actually sing, play instruments and write songs. Talented people. These days you just need to look a little harder and wade through the garbage to get to the good stuff.

So what do you think? Who's fakin' it and who's makin' it?
Don't just who - tell us why they are or aren't talented.
