Long before the Xbox and GBA SP, there was a pair of video game heroes hailing from Brooklyn. Mario and Luigi were brothers who ran a plumbing business, until the day they were sucked down a drain and transported into the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi had several video games made in their honor, which eventually led to the 1989 cartoon, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! Get the goods on this '80s throwback, right here!

Super Mario Bros. - Main Characters

  • Mario Mario - Mario is a kind-hearted, Italian plumber who loves pasta and can always be counted on to come to the rescue of those in need.
  • Luigi Mario - Luigi is Mario's younger brother. He is taller and slimmer than Mario and a little more panicky than his hero bro. Despite his nervousness, Luigi is always by Mario's side when someone needs saving.
  • Princess Peach Toadstool - Princess Peach is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom and is constantly getting herself into sticky situations - usually being kidnapped by the evil King Bowser Koopa. Lucky for her, her crush Mario is always waiting around the next corner to save her!
  • King Bowser Koopa - King Koopa's main objective is to kidnap Princess Peach and take over the Mushroom Kingdom. In every episode, Mario and Luigi manage to foil his plans, but Koopa always manages to escape and continues to plague the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Toad - Toad is part mushroom, part human and he lives in the Mushroom Kingdom. Occasionally he needs to be saved by Mario and Luigi, but for the most part, Toad lends a hand to fight evil whenever he can.

Super Mario Bros. - Fun Facts

  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! aired Monday through Thursday every afternoon from 1989-1990. On Fridays, an episode of The Legend of Zelda would air featuring Link and Zelda fighting off the forces of Ganon.
  • Every Super Mario Bros. episode featured a live-action segment with Mario and Luigi in Brooklyn. Mario was played by wrestler, Captain Lou Albano and Luigi was played by actor Danny Wells.
  • Many celebrities made guest appearances on The Super Mario Bros. Super Show including '80s pop diva, Cyndi Lauper, NBA player Magic Johnson and former Wonder Years' actor, Danica McKellar.
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! was sponsored by Domino's Pizza.
