Zoom DVD Review

Dec 27, 2006

When a super bad-guy threatens to return from the grave, the military is forced to take drastic measures. They call down-on-his-luck Captain Zoom out of retirement to teach a ragtag bunch of kids (who just happen to have some serious superpowers) how to save the world. Will he succeed?

Zoom - It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Tim Allen

Zoom follows the story of the now-powerless Captain Zoom (Tim Allen) who is called back into duty to teach a band of powerful but inexperienced superkids to save the world. Back in Zoom's day, superheroes honed their superpowers by being zapped by gamma rays. Now - thanks to super-psychologist Marsha Holloway (Courteney Cox) - they hope to train the kids to get in touch with their powers instead. But the bad guy is only days away!

Zoom - The Superhero Clause

When it appears that the kids aren't going to be ready in time to fight super-villain Concussion (Captain Zoom's brother - who was warped by the dangerous gamma rays), the military stops playing nice. They prepare to zap the kids with the very same gamma rays that turned Concussion into a villain. Will Zoom be able to save the kids? Will they be able to fight Concussion? Will we be able to stay awake to find out?

Zoom – DVD Features

Ever wanted to know how superheroes managed saving the world and leading a normal life at the same time? Check out the Academy of Super Heroes Guide for Kids on the Zoom DVD to find out! There’s also a featurette that takes you on the set of the movie to show you how the movie magic was created.

Zoom - The Bottom Line

We might be able to forgive Zoom for blatantly ripping off Sky High if they'd done it a little better. However, since there was exactly half a laugh in the entire film, we feel justified in totally trashing it. The acting is horrific; the plot is as overused as Paris Hilton's self tanner; and the jokes fall flat. Throw in an awkward romance or two and some seriously cheesy special effects and you have the makings for one seriously disastrous flick.
