1 Hey Coach,
I really, really wanna make the basketball team in seventh grade but my parents won't let me go to any camps, and no one in my family wants to help my game. I was just wondering if I have any chance of making the team next year even though I'm my only support system.
RoCFaLLa726

Hey RoCFaLLa726,
You don't need to go to basketball camp to improve your game or to make the seventh grade team. You can practice shooting and dribbling by yourself or play b-ball with your friends. Going to basketball camp definitely helps - but it's not the only way to get better. There should be a basketball hoop somewhere near your house. Go find it and start practicing. You'll probably meet some other kids who like to play basketball who can help your game as well.

Sometimes you have to make things happen for yourself, if members of your family aren't being supportive. Lots of players who are now in the NBA and WNBA grew up without much of a support system and without going to b-ball camp. They improved their game by practicing every day and playing with other kids who lived in their neighborhood. All you need is a ball and a basket, so start practicing and you'll have a good chance of making the school team.

1Hey Coach,
I'm going to basketball camp and I'm nervous because my cousin told me that the coach who's going to teach us is mean. I know not to judge a person before meeting them - but I'm still nervous. Please help me.
Krystyle

Hey Krystyle,
Don't be nervous. As you said, you can't judge a coach who hasn't even taught you yet. Some players get along with certain coaches better than other players do. Coaches in the NBA get fired all the time because they don't get along with players - but that doesn't mean those coaches are mean people.

Your cousin may think the coach is a jerk but that doesn't mean you won't get along with the coach. Your cousin may be a little wuss who cries like a baby if a coach raises their voice or asks players to play hard. Go to the basketball camp with an open mind, be prepared to work hard and have fun and you'll probably have a great time. If your coach does turn out to be a jerk - well, that's how things go sometimes. Not everyone can be like Phil Jackson.

Do you have a question on sports, P.E. class, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
