1Hey Coach,
I'm a 7th grader and I live in Michigan - not anywhere near an ocean. But ever since I was little - maybe 1st grade - I've ALWAYS wanted to move to Hawaii, and surf! How can I convince my mom to move to Hawaii? I want to learn how to surf and move to Hawaii more than anything else in the world! Please help me!

Hey Surfer44,
That's a pretty tough assignment. Convincing your mom to move to Hawaii so you can learn how to surf won't be an easy task. You'd probably have better luck convincing her to move to downtown Detroit so you can learn to rap like Eminem. But I've come up with a couple of suggestions that may have you going to school at Waikiki Junior High by next winter:

The Plan
1.Tell your mom that if you move to Hawaii and learn to surf, you'll be able to become a pro surfer like Kelly Slater and make millions of dollars a year. Tell her that you'll give her half of your pro surfing pay checks so she can take an early retirement.
2.Try convincing your mom that you have one of those rare, incurable diseases that makes it necessary for you to live in a warm climate with lots of sunlight (This will require some pretty good acting on your part but if you can forge a doctor's note, this just might work.)

You Don't Have To Move
If none of the above ideas work, you can always try taking surfing lessons somewhere closer to Michigan. There are several good surfing spots on the east coast of the United States such as North Carolina, Maryland and Maine. The surf might not be as sweet as Hawaii, but it certainly beats trying to ride a surfboard on a highway in Michigan. Your mom will also be more likely to take you to surf camp at one of these Atlantic Coast spots for a week than pack up and move to Hawaii. Good luck and hang ten!

Do you need tips or advice on sports, fitness or health? to the Kidzworld Coach. Keep in mind peeps, the Kidzworld Coach isn't a doctor or a professional athlete or anything like that. He's just a dude who digs sports, plays 'em and knows a lot about 'em. You should always talk to your 'rents, a doctor or your school gym teacher before starting a new sport or a new exercise.
