Why Pick on Pop?

Jan 03, 2019

I love *NSYNC. I like Britney Spears' tunes. I even sometimes find myself hummin' an O-Town tune. This makes people think less of me. Why? Because according to some it's not "real" music.

*NSYNC is pop music. Pop music is only one genre of music. It is no less a genre of music than rock or blues or rap. Just because something is catchy, upbeat and with a good hook does not mean that it is not music. In fact it is more finely crafted music than some other genres.

I know *NSYNC (and a lot of pop out there right now) may never win a Grammy or be recognized as true lyricists, but their songs drive home a message for me and make me feel good about myself and life. If you don't agree, that's fine. But if that's how I feel and how their music makes me feel - why would you want to tear that down?

If listening to some "serious" rock artist sing sadly about death and emotional baggage makes you happy then I would never want to take that from you. My motto is that even if I don't get it - if something makes someone else happy (and isn't hurting anyone) then power to them. The world would be such a better place if we all could just accept each other differences - in music and so much more.

Wanna vent? We'd be glad to hear it.

Okay, I noticed this throughout your whole site - all U ever talk about is the music that is popular, and only from a few genres! What about heavy metal, goth, industrial, indie, blues, jazz, handcore rock you NEVER talk about any of that! All power to the people that like pop, but what about us goths? I'm sick of hearing that pop gets picked on all the time! Actually, you don't. Not nearly as much as we do! Not all goths and people like me are depressed, maniac, psycho-killers! Just like not all of the people who like pop are egotistical, snotty brats! Stop talking about all the poor pop people and expand your horizon! There are other music genres other than the few lame ones who mentioned; pop, rap, hip-hop, r&b and rock. And, stop talking about the poor pop people that get picked on all the time for liking pop! Goths and people like me get it way worse, just because of the way we look, or the music we listen to!
