When Jerry accidentally demagnetizes all of the videos in his friends store, he comes up with a plan to remake a bunch of classic films, starring themselves of course. Kidzworld has the review.

Jack Black is back in the hilarious comedy, Be Kind Rewind! Kidzworld takes a look at this movie about movies.

Head Case

Jerry (Jack Black) is a motor-mouthed mechanic who decides to sabotage the local power plant because he thinks it’s giving him headaches. Well, things don’t go as planned and he gets zapped and becomes a walking magnet. Magnets aren’t good for video tapes, and when Jerry visits his friend Mike (Mos Def) who works at the Be Kind, Rewind video store, every single tape gets erased.

Low Budget Movie Stars

Not wanting to disappoint the store’s owner, Mr. Fletcher, (Danny Glover) or their loyal customers, Jerry and Mike decide to shoot their own versions of the films and pass them off as Swedish remakes. Using super low budget effects and people from the neighborhood, the guys make [KWLINK]hilarious copies[/KWLINK] of movies like The Lion King, Ghostbusters and Robocop. Pretty soon everyone in town wants to rent their flicks.

Kidnapped

Unfortunately, copyright lawyers show up and tell the guys that what they’re doing is illegal and destroy all of the tapes. And it gets even worse, because the Be Kind, Rewind video store is set to be demolished and turned into a modern condominium development. Can Jerry and Mike, with a little help from the community, work together to save the store?

The Bottom Line

This is a pretty solid comedy. Jack Black is funny, even though he plays a character we’ve already seen from him a couple times before, and Mos Def proves he can do more than just rap. The only bad part about the movie is that the funniest scenes from when they are remaking the movies are only in the middle of the film, and go by way too fast. Be Kind, Rewind might not be the funniest movie you see in 2008, but it’s fun and definitely worth watching.
