Jessie James may look like a naughty cowgirl, but her self-titled debut album is no country barn square dance. Take the pep and vim of Katy Perry and mix it with the youthful, country-crossover appeal of Taylor Swift you’ll get a sense of Jessie’s knock-down, drag-out sound that’s been heating up the charts. She’s toured with the Jonas Brothers, got her first tattoo, and contributed a hot track to the Confessions of a Shopaholic soundtrack. Check out Kidzworld’s review of her debut album, Jessie James.

Xtina's Example

Jessie cites Christina Aguilera as an influence and it’s easy to hear Xtina’s influence when you hear Jessie’s vocal acrobatics in songs like Burnin’ Bridges and Inevitable, but Jessie is her own woman—which she makes very clear in fun, liberating anthems like Blue Jeans, a playful song about clubbing in short shorts—you might’ve heard the rollicking number on the Confessions of a Shopaholic soundtrack.

Famous Friends

Christina Aguilera may her hero, but Jessie James counts Katy Perry as her friend—the Hot n Cold singer co-wrote Bullet with her and Katy contributed vocals to the aching down-tempo Girl Next Door. Jessie’s big single, Wanted was co-written with another famous femme—the hit songwriter and American Idol judge, Kara DioGuardi whom Jessie has described as “feisty, energetic and very, very intelligent.” The same description could apply to Jessie if you consider her well-crafted debut with its catchy hooks and contemplative lyrics—this cowgirl will be riding high for a while!

Tattoo Trouble

Jessie let Hinder guitarist Mike Rodden give her a neck tattoo with members of his band and the guys from Nickelback acting as an encouraging audience. In fact, Jessie only got the tattoo to impress her crush: “Chad from Nickelback was sitting right next to me saying, ‘Yeah, do it! Do it!’ So peer pressure…I had it done and it looked horrible—like chicken scratch. I had to wait a month to get it fixed.”

Hot Tracks

Wanted, Blue Jeans, I Look So Good (Without You)
