The Vampire Diaries: Season 3, Episode 16 :: 1912

Mar 15, 2012

This week on The Vampire Diaries (Season 3, Episode 16), Alaric discovers he may be a murderer. Read Kidzworld’s recap of “1912”, which aired March 15, 2012, to discover what you missed.

There is a killing spree hitting Mystic Falls, and the Sheriff wants to find the killer. Everyone has their own suspicions, but Caroline’s mom and Dr. Fell both think the murderer is Alaric. He is arrested, but Elena is determined to prove his innocence. She recruits Matt to help her, and the two break into Dr. Fell’s house while she is at work. Turns out, she has a box of files, and one of them has Alaric’s name on it. The other files are all about people who have also been stabbed in Mystic Falls. But, before they can dig too deep, Dr. Fell comes home and catches them in action. Afterwards, Matt reveals that he stole a journal from the box, and it was written by Samantha Gilbert, one of Elena’s ancestors.

The Past

The recent killings have Stefan and Damon reminiscing about the past – specifically, the year of 1912. Apparently a similar situation occurred back then, when members of the founding families were killed. When he returned to town for a relative’s funeral, Damon met a woman vampire named Sage, who also lived in Mystic Falls. Sage basically turned him into the womanizer that he is today.

Magic Ring

When Elena tells the Salvatore brothers about the journal, Damon and Stefan both remember Samantha. In the journal it says she claimed to have been the murderer of 1912, and was locked up in an insane asylum. Apparently she had a magic ring, just like the one Alaric wears. Dr. Fell also thinks the ring is the clue to the murders. She claims the ring causes blackouts, and during that time Alaric is murdering people. Could this actually be the truth?
