Pokémon 2013 Spring Regional Championships

Apr 17, 2013

The 2013 Spring Regional Championships for Pokémon was held on the weekend of April 13th and 14th in Athens, Georgia; Salt Lake City, Utah; Vancouver, British Columbia; Foxborough, Massachusetts; and Madison, Wisconsin. Hundreds of Pokémon players for the card game and video game gathered at each location to play for top spot and win a free trip to the Nationals Championship, which will be held in July.

In the Cards

The video game results are not out yet, but we do have the winners for the trading card game! In the Masters division, Mike Newman took the top spot in Georgia with his Rayquaza EX and Eeletrik deck. Roberto Lozada won the Regionals in Utah with his Blastoise rain dance deck that used Keldeo EX and Black Kyurem EX as attackers. In British Columbia, Bidier Jing surprised his opponents with a rogue deck that use Tornadus EX, Mewtwo EX, Cobalion EX, Garbordor, and Ho-oh. In Wisconsin, Casey Smith won a difficult finals with his Mewtwo EX, Landorus EX, and Garbordor deck. Results from Massachusetts, however, has not yet been posted at this time. It is interesting to see lots of different decks do well!

The Next Step

The next big event for the trading card game is the pre-release event for the Plasma Freeze expansion set in early May. After that is the Battle Road tournaments, which is a great place to get started if you are new to the card game. The next major video game tournament will be the Nationals in Indianapolis. Finally, in August, the World Championships will be held in Vancouver, British Columbia. To get the latest information on tournaments near you, check out Pokemon.com and use the tournament locator!
