Aug 23, 2013

Choose your favorite dragon and take to the sky with two of your friends in an epic battle to save the world. Want to know more? Keep reading Kidzworld's Crimson Dragon Xbox One game preview!

It's All In The Genes

Crimson Dragon comes from the mind of acclaimed game designer Yukio Futatsugi. Who is responsible for one of my favorite game series of past generations, Panzer Dragoon. Most of you readers have probably never heard of Panzer Dragoon but just saying the name brings back so many good memories for me. All three main entry Panzer Dragoon games are still great to this day, (but admittedly dated) so you can imagine my explosive enthusiasm when I saw what Grounding Inc., Crimson Dragon's developers, were revealing to the world.

It was a spiritual successor to the dragon riding, aerial combat I adored. But this time it's all wrapped up in a slick next-gen package.

Next-Gen On-Rails

Crimson Dragon is an "on-rails" shooter, which means you don't have full control over your direction. It's like a roller-coaster. You're almost always moving forward with the ability to slow down or speed up as well as move around the screen, corner to corner. This allows you to focus on the environments, enemies and your aiming while the dragons hurtle you forward on a thrilling adventure. Because you don't have to worry about the flying itself, you're able to turn the camera to face behind you and engage with enemies that are sneaking up from the back. You're always having to pay attention to your surroundings, 360 degrees.

You can lock on and fire at enemies even if they're behind you.You can lock on and fire at enemies even if they're behind you.

Upgradable Dragons and Co-Op Multiplayer

The dragons you ride are not just cool to look at. You will eventually find your favorite and once you do, you'll be able to upgrade it and personalize it. How much we can do has not been fully revealed but the developers have said to expect a skill set, with possibly up to 100 traits to build upon at your choosing. Not only that, but you'll be able share in all this fun with friends. Join two of your online buddies, saddle up and take to the sky for an epic battle to save the world. Over the course of the adventure you'll be thrown you into a variety of beautiful but hostile locations, each offering their own unique and challenging end boss. Will you emerge victorious?

Oh--and don't forget to feed your dragon. They deserve a good meal after a long, hard fought battle!
