Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare Game Preview

Jan 22, 2014

It didn't take long for the Plants vs. Zombies series from PopCap Games to become a hit. First released on PC/Mac and then later on consoles and handheld devices, the quirky Tower Defense game quickly garnered a following thanks to its strong gameplay and humor. Well PvZ fans, PopCap is just about set to release their biggest game yet.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare. Coming first to Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on February 18th, 2014.

It's a bold new direction for the PvZ series. What was once a top down 2D tower defense game is now a fully immersive, 3rd-person shooter. Hold back the comical Zombie horde as you and your friends each pick a class of plant then team up in 4 player online co-op. The Xbox One version also has an exclusive 2 player offline co-op mode.

If you're looking for an even bigger spectacle, join large scale 24 player competitive online battles. Choose your side and play as either the Plants or the Zombies, only one team can be standing at the end. Each class of Plant and Zombie will have 3 special abilities on top of a basic attack. So far all the revealed characters are familiar ones to fans, including the ridiculous Sunflower, who takes on the medic role here.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare is also promising dozens of items and accessories to help your online characters stand out. You unlock items by building and progressing your character stats which is done by completing additional in game challenges. Deck your character out in crazy hats, wacky glasses and more.

I can't help but smile when I watch trailers for Garden Warfare. Like PopCaps previous efforts including Peggle 2 (which made our Xbox GOTY list), Garden Warfare seems jam packed with charm and characters rich with personality. Hopefully when the game launches this February it turns out to be as fun as it looks.
