New Games From Sonic, Disney, and PaRappa

Mar 20, 2017

By: Max Cannon

Oh man, there are some golden games coming out and really soon. The return of Sonic the Hedgehog, some awesome Disney classics, and the remaster of Parappa the Rapper has an official release date.

Sonic Mania Has a Short Delay

Sonic Mania was originally releasing on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in Spring of 2017 but in a recent announcement -- via the various vocal social media accounts representing Sonic the Hedgehog -- it seems like Sonic Mania is going to hit digital/store shelves at some point over Summer of 2017. A short but unfortunate delay. Released next to the news of the delay, we got our first look at the inclusion of Sonic & Knuckles' level Flying Battery Zone with some music that took me back to my childhood. Check out the new trailer here:

On top of this news we've also been informed that Sonic's next big game to release this year will be called Sonic Forces. We don't have much news about this game but the original trailer included Modern and Classic Sonic.

Disney Games Do Have Release Dates

Announced earlier on March 16th, 2017, The Disney Afternoon Collection is a compilation of 6 Disney-licensed games from yesteryear. The Disney Afternoon Collection will release on April 18th for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One for $19.99, the games will be upgraded to 1080p visuals with a filter that gives the game a retro look from the original. The game will include a Boss Rush, Time Attack, and "rewind" feature that'll make the game a little easier.

The Disney Afternoon Collection will include Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers 2, Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Ducktales 2, and Talespin. I grew up playing Ducktales and Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers on my NES so I won't deny that I'm disappointed I can't play the compilation of my Nintendo Switch.

PaRappa the Rapper Remastered's Release Date

The PlayStation 1 original PaRappa the Rapper, one of the first rhythm games to take the world by storm, is hitting the PlayStation 4 on April 4th. This remaster will cost $14.99 and offer a 20% discount on PlayStation Plus. If you'd like to give the game a try before you buy, you can download the demo from the PlayStation Store and try out the first level. Pre-ordering will also snag you an exclusive theme to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the original game.

The new release will add new tracks to the game, DualShock 4 specific features, and a free dose of nostalgia for older gamers like myself. It may feel a little rough around the edges for most gamers so I would highly recommend checking out the demo and making sure it is for you.
