Microsoft's E3 2018 Press Conference Recap

Jun 10, 2018

By: Max Cannon

Xbox has a lot to prove at this E3 but they also have some of the most potentials of any other company in the gaming industry. Do we see a new Halo, more Gears of War, or brand new IP? Let's see what they have to show!

Halo Infinite

The show kicked off with a mysterious and very open looking title that kept its biggest surprise to the end when we saw a Spartan helmet. Not much more information on the game other than that, however, it does seem to maybe have an open world.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps

The upcoming follow-up to Ori and the Blind Forest is one of our most anticipated games, sadly it doesn't seem like it'll hit the 2018 window that I hoped for but we got confirmation of a 2019 date! The trailer is available below.

Set in the Life is Strange Universe

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is an upcoming spinoff in the world of DONTNOD's adventure game Life is Strange. Currently, unrated by the ESRB, the game is planned to launch on June 26th completely for free on Xbox One, PS4, and Steam. Below is the new trailer.

Crackdown 3

The long-awaited Xbox exclusive is going to be awaited a little bit longer as the game was recently officially pushed back to February 2019.

Kingdom Hearts III Frozen World

Last night, Kingdom Hearts III got a surprise announcement of a delay into early 2019 with a January 29th date. Specifically at the Xbox conference, we got an odd sounding trailer that showed off English voice acting and the inclusion of a world based on Disney's Frozen! The new video is available right below.

Sea of Thieves DLC

Rare's open-world online pirate adventure, Sea of Thieves, is getting a pair of DLC packs later this summer. The stories are presented with that cutesy Rare-like aesthetic in the new trailer.

Forza Horizon 4

Set in Britain, Forza Horizon 4 brings changing seasons to Microsoft's fantastic open-world racer. Demos are already kicking around online of drivers racing across previously unavailable locations when cruising across frozen lakes in the winter or soaking up the sun in a summer race with the world's shared-setting that brings in other online players. Take a look for yourself below and keep an eye open for the launch on October 2nd, 2018.

A Focus on First Party

Xbox announced the acquisition or creation of 5 different studios including The Initiative, Undead Labs, Playground Games, Ninja Theory, and Compulsion Games. While a lot of the games shown, aside from Halo and Gears of War, seem to be multiplatform, Xbox is clearly poised to take a stronger stance on their exclusive games in the future.

Xbox also set aside some time to talk about Game Pass and their upcoming release of FastStart which will allow online games to be downloaded twice as fast. Also, GamePass is getting the Master Chief Collection later this summer while The Division and Fallout 4 are being added to the library today alongside The Elder Scrolls Online. We also can't forget to point out that we got the tiniest reference to Microsoft already working on the next Xbox.

Session

EA broke my heart yesterday by not revealing Skate 4 but Microsoft looks poised to fill that gap by bringing 2017's Kickstarted game Session to Xbox One.

Cuphead's DLC

Coming in 2019, Cuphead is getting a new piece of content titled "The Delicious Last Course," or DLC. We're getting new bosses and a new playable character with Ms. Chalice.

Tunic

This adorable world is clearly inspired by the classic Legend of Zelda games but didn't give a release date. Who knows when we'll see Tunic but it looks so cutesy that I know I'll certainly be playing it.

Jump Force

This looks like it'll be the Super Smash Bros of Anime. Jump Force combines characters from Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, and more into a giant fighting game! You'll have to see this one to believe it.
