Battle of the Summer Bop: The Latest New Music

Apr 26, 2019

By: Katie Chilson

The past few weeks and months have been filled with a plethora of new songs all vying for that coveted title of Song of the Summer. Pop royalty are out in full force, so let’s take a look at the latest releases from our favorite songstresses and sirs.

Welcome Home, Beyoncé

Queen Bey dropped her epic Homecoming live album and Netflix documentary on April 17th, barely giving us time to emotionally prepare after announcing the project just a couple weeks earlier.

The two hour film takes fans behind the scenes of her iconic Coachella performance in 2018. After gifting us with the bar-setting cultural revelation that is Lemonade back in 2016, it’s incredible to witness Beyonce outdo herself (and the rest of the competition?!?) yet again.

It's ME! Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift’s heavily promoted and highly anticipated single “ME!” featuring the vocal stylings of Panic! At the Disco’s Brendon Urie (a match made in pop heaven) debuted today (April 26th) complete with a cotton candy colored music video and spelling lessons.

The snake imagery of her Reputation days looks to have evolved in a burst of butterflies, ushering in a new era for the country crooner turned pop princess. Check out the video and let us know what you think below!

There is no confirmed release date for the next T Swift album just yet… but here’s to hoping Taylor delivers more summer bops to enjoy poolside while school’s out.

No Problem Too Grande

We’re not sure what we did to deserve Ariana Grande blessing us with her fourth album Sweetener last summer and immediately following it up with thank u, next in February, but we’ll take it. With chart-toppers like “7 rings” and “break up with you’re girlfriend, i’m bored” she’s never off our radar, especially with her much talked about Coachella performance with surprise guest Justin Bieber.

The two stars have faced a lot of online criticism following some lip-syncing hiccups with his spur-of-the-moment decision to duet his hit “Sorry” with Ariana. Regardless of any outrage, if any stars can move past the roadblock, it’s these two (especially with Ariana strutting like a pro past a wayward lemon cast in her direction).

Happiness Begins with the JoBros

Our favorite band of brothers, the Jonas Brothers began their sibling comeback with “Sucker’s” release at the end of February followed by the aptly named and effortlessly “Cool” single in April. Word is the full album, Happiness Begins, drops in June, hopefully with some more brightly colored and 1980’s inspired music videos to accompany the hits.
