Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order's First Gameplay!

A first look at this upcoming game in action.

By: Max Cannon

We've been patiently awaiting a good long look at Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order since it was awkwardly announced during EA's press conference back in 2018. While we were fortunate enough to get a trailer that showed off the story during Star Wars Celebration a few weeks back, what everyone really wants to see is how the game looks in action. Finally, to kick things off for E3 2019, a live stream during EA Play gave us a meaty demonstration of actual gameplay and we got our first look at a fancy-pants trailer from the Xbox event.

Kicking Butt with Cal Kestis

We got our first peek at the story's lead, Cal Kestis, back at Star Wars Celebration. While we got a bit of an idea concerning what the character is after, and who he is on the run from, there wasn't exactly too much information to share about how the game would actually play. Thankfully, E3 2019 delivered if you were looking to see Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order in action.

After seeing the footage, which you can check out for yourself below, the game definitely feels like it shares some ideas from the world of Uncharted, a great title to pull inspiration from. Climbing up walls and running around a lush jungle makes Cal Kestis seem more like Nathan Drake than one of the last jedi. However, the team over at Respawn Entertainment also seemed to focus on some excellent looking lightsaber combat that was looking similar to something like Dark Souls or Sekiro -- or the classic series Star Wars: The Force Unleashed back in the Nintendo Wii era.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order Official Gameplay Demo

There's a ton of quality gameplay to comb through in the clip above but a highlight has to be those awesome force powers. Freezing enemies in place and pulling them into their own blaster lazers seems like it'll nail the long awaited dream of controlling a jedi on a modern gaming machine. Some very Titanfall-esque wall-running stands out from the demo but the biggest surprise to fans of the films will probably come from the inclusion of Forest Whitaker's character from Star Wars Rogue One.

Though Cal's little droid buddy steals the show, and looks like he'll be tagging along throughout your entire adventure, it's exciting to get our first look at a recognizable character. This also begs the question, will we be seeing more characters popping up from the very expansive Star Wars-universe? Only time will tell, but fortunately we won't have to wait for too long. The game's scheduled for a November 15th, 2019 release date for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.
