Take a look at your favorite heroes in action.

Though the MCU may be going through some ups-and-downs following the colossal release of Avengers: EndgameMarvel's career in video gaming is just gaining steam. Last year's Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 modernized the gameplay we've come to know and love from this classic comic book character, but Crystal Dynamics is going to put players in control of the cast of characters many grew to know and love from the films.

Marvel's Avengers at E3 2019

We've known that Crystal Dynamics, the team because the Tomb Raider franchise, has been cooking up an Avengers game since they released a teaser trailer January of 2017. But the first time we got any idea of what the final product would look like was during this year's E3 show. The game's development team took to the stage to describe that we'd be playing as Captain America, Black Widow, Hulk, and Iron Man -- likely with more playable characters to follow.

But, despite releasing an interesting trailer, we left the event with far more questions than answers. Although there was a behind-closed-doors demo for members of the press, there wasn't any meaty look at gameplay available to the public. And there was conflicting information about how we'd actually play the game, with the story trailer focusing on a single-player adventure, but the developers on stage mostly spoke about multiplayer.

Watch the Gameplay for Yourself

If you watched the aforementioned trailer from the E3 show, you're going to be somewhat familiar with the story behind this gameplay. During the Avengers A-Day event, which seems to be some sort of Avengers celebration taking place in San Fransisco, there's an attack courtesy of the Taskmaster. Things kick off with a bit of Thor gameplay, which comes across as an age-appropriate take on the God of War games. As the God of Thunder knocks around some baddies, we cut to Tony Stark who focuses more on ranged attacks than melee blows -- though Thor's hammer throw looks awesome.

As the two fight in the bridge, Black Widow flies an Avengers-jet above the Golden Gate Bridge and Bruce Banner jumps out the back while transforming into The Incredible Hulk on the way down. Hulk easily takes down a horde of enemies and shows off his strength by flinging a truck like it was nothing. Back on the Avengers' massive helicarrier, Captain America takes on a group of mercenaries with his shield, making use of both melee and ranged attacks. And finally, we see Black Widow as she runs across an exploding bridge and fights Taskmaster in an Uncharted-like set piece moment.

Of course, you're going to want to watch the game in action for yourself, so we've posted the video above. There are some impressive looking visuals packaged around this simple-looking combat system. The concept of switching between multiple characters looks awesome, but we'll have to wait a bit until we can play it for ourselves.

Marvel's Avengers releases on May 15th, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia. Fingers crossed that there's no delay and we're enjoying the game for ourselves next summer.
