New Alien Hominid Game Announced: Alien Hominid Invasion

The studio behind indie darlings like Castle Crashers, Battleblock Theatre and Alien Hominid are back with another quirky game.

Feb 04, 2020

The Behemoth, the studio that got their start with the flash game Alien Hominid back in 2004, is coming back with their next title, Alien Hominid Invasion. The Behemoth has delivered some of the most charming games in the indie scene, and the original Alien Hominid can be traced back from so many games today, like the side-scrolling shooter Cuphead. The studio has constantly evolved the types of games they have released, and Invasion is set to test the studio’s skills with a crazy fast arcade shooter.

Co-op Arcade Shooter Mayhem

Where the original game was a fairly simple side-scroller where you platform and blast enemies, the new game is taking things in a bit of a new direction. Invasion is a:

"co-op arcade shooter (that) will be an all-new re-imagination of the studio’s first game, Alien Hominid HD."

Changing things up has been a constant mission of the developer, each game they've made has been fairly different from the last, even if they might all feature similarly quirky, animated graphics. Co-op games will never go out of fashion, so taking the animated sci-fi world of Alien Hominid to another cooperative space seems like a great match. Alien Hominid Invasion will be playable at the upcoming PAX East expo running from February 27th - March 1st, as well as EGX Rezzed, so if you're planning on attending one of those events, keep an eye out for it on the show floor!

Remembering The Behemoth

The Behemoth hasn’t made that many games, but the ones they have are all undeniably charming and have made waves across the indie game space. Alien Hominid HD was their first try at console games after the famous Flash game made waves across browsers everywhere. Xbox Live Arcade opened the doors for so many indie developers to make awesome games before the huge scene we have today. With how many indie games hit consoles and PC’s today, it is hard to imagine that the idea was nearly completely foreign before Xbox Live Arcade gave many indie developers the chance to show the world their creativity.

Oddly enough, Alien Hominid HD never made it off the Xbox 360 and hasn’t been re-released on any other platform. Castle Crashers, on the other hand, is a different story. Castle Crashers, the 4-player co-op hack and slasher took the gaming world by storm and has since been released everywhere from the original Xbox 360 to the Nintendo Switch. Castle Crashers truly put The Behemoth on the map and is still a blast to play. Battleblock Theatre changed things up as a comedic platformer, with just as much charm as the previous games, and Pit People challenged players with strategic RPG gameplay. As a studio, they have constantly evolved their craft, while keeping the quirky comedy and visuals intact.
