Step Up DVD Review

Dec 27, 2006

A guy from the wrong side of town gets a shot at dancing his way to the top. Sound familiar? Kidzworld reviews Step Up - find out if this flick can really step up to all the other dancing movies that we've seen before.

Step Up - Bad Boy Meets Good Girl

Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) is a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. For fun, he dances, plays hoops and breaks into schools and trashes them. This last hobby of his lands him in trouble, so he has to do 200 hours of community service by cleaning up the school he trashed. It turns out to be an elite performing arts school where rich kids study dance, music and fine arts. At first, Tyler's pretty bummed about his punishment, but when he notices Nora (Jenna Dewan), his after-school gig doesn't seem like such a chore.

Step Up - White Men Can't Dance... or Can They?

Nora's a ballet dancer who is consumed with dance practice (she has to perform a dance piece in order to graduate). When her partner gets injured, Tyler offers to sub in until her original partner is back on his feet. The problem is, Nora is classical ballet and Tyler is all hip hop! But this is what makes the movie so funny - watching a guy who is rough around the edges try to be graceful and do pirouettes! So can a guy who's never finished anything he started come through for Nora? You'll have to watch the movie to find out!

Step Up - DVD Features

Shake your booty to the new Step Up DVD! This fun disc includes deleted dance scenes, bloopers and commentary from the movies' stars - Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan. If you want to improve your moves, you can also get some help from the Making the Moves featurette!

Step Up - Bottom Line

Step Up is one of those movies that you think is going to suck, but turns out to be surprisingly good. The general plot of the movie may be recycled from Save the Last Dance, but Step Up has different twists and turns and a lot more depth than you think it would. It's not going to get nominated for any Oscars, but it could possibly end up on your favorites list, especially if you're a Channing Tatum fan. Even if you're not, it's a great chance to see a big, tough guy dance around in tights!
