Game Tournaments

Dec 27, 2006

Gamers don't get any respect but we are starting to get some recognition. In the last few years game tournaments, for video games and card games, have been popping up all over the place. Everyone from Pokemon card masters to PS2 junkies can score some respect for their skills. They can also win kick-butt prizes and awards.

Multiplayer games have the hottest tournament action. Quake, StarCraft and others invite the best of the best to square off and prove who has the maddest skills. If you're a top player you can win big at these contests. Dennis 'Thresh' Fong made history when he battled against Entropy in the final match of the Red Annihilation tournament and won. His prize was the Ferrari belonging to John Carmack - the guy who invented Quake.

What about you? How can you start on your path to fame and riches as the best gamer in the world? Well don't bet on it for starters. Just like any pro athlete you have to be really lucky to make it big. If you're looking for a way to get started check out www.twingalaxies.com. It's the home of the video game and pinball world records. And it's the place to go if you're looking for video game action like a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 championship in your neighborhood. Check out their event calendar and see what's happening.

If you're a card game master, check out www.wizards.com for a chance to enter in the Magic: the Gathering Junior Super Series. Winners can score some serious scholarship cash - up to $20,000 for your education. Pokemasters can enter the Pokemon Super Trainer Showdown. Check out our Pokemon review for more info on how to join the league.

We're not talking multi-million dollar contracts, thousands of screaming fans and your face on Coke cans yet. Gaming as a sport is getting more and more popular though. Gaming leagues are organizing championships, companies are sponsoring events and trophies are being won. It's only a matter of time 'til you see the latest video game championship results next to the baseball scores.
